Words made to order, for the moments that matter.
About Cressa
Cressida, a figure of the old tradition whom predominantly male poets have long described and seldom justified. In these pages she is sovereign, clear-eyed, and entirely her own author, a woman of ancient lineage who speaks with the authority of one who has read the whole record and needs no one’s leave to interpret it.

She regards the political world as a student of history: with attention, composure, wit and without illusion. Parties, causes, and patrons each offer their shelter, and each in due course presents its reckoning. Cressa has found that no one is wholly in one’s camp, and she counts this a freedom. Unbound by allegiance, she says what she judges true, to the one reader for whom a given letter is intended.
Her prose is measured and exact. Classical myth, the vital presence of Black women in the ancient world, and the enduring question of who may tell the story move through each page of the narrative unfurling. She writes candidly, tenderly, and without needing assent.
In person, as on the page, she is the picture of poised, dry-witted, and unhurried grace. She listens far more than she speaks, and she remembers what she hears. Correspondents may expect a warm reception and a plain answer: she will ask the question beneath your question, offer her honest view without pressing it upon you, and leave you free to disagree. Her humor and her loyalty is to the truth of the matter. She does not rush a conversation toward a conclusion. She lets it find its own, and you will usually leave it seeing your own situation a little more clearly than when you arrived.
